The procedure, considered

Contour carried beyond the abdomen for a more complete transformation.

A waist tuck extends abdominal contouring around the sides of the torso to remove loose skin and fat at the waist and hips. It may be especially useful after major weight loss or when a previous tummy tuck has left excess tissue at the flanks; the procedure can also create a subtle lifting effect through the buttocks.

Your consultation

Plan the contour in 360 degrees.

Dr. Nakamura studies the abdomen, sides, back, existing scars, and skin laxity as one connected shape. Your health history, goals, surgical options, risks, recovery, pricing, and financing are reviewed in detail.

The procedure

Extend the line. Complete the silhouette.

The incision generally extends from an existing or planned tummy-tuck scar around the waist, ending above the buttocks without meeting across the back. A carefully measured wedge of skin and fat is removed and the remaining tissue is redraped.

  • General anesthesia
  • Typically two to three hours
  • Performed in the accredited surgery center

Recovery

Movement, supported and intentional.

A compression garment supports the waist as swelling resolves. Side-to-side movement is limited during early healing, but getting up and walking remains important; assistance may be needed at first.

  • Many patients return to work in approximately 7–10 days
  • Twisting and strenuous movement remain restricted longer
  • Your personal recovery plan takes precedence over general timelines

Waist Tuck FAQs

Questions worth
asking early.

General information to support a more informed consultation. Your recommendations and recovery guidance will always be personalized.

01Do I need a tummy tuck or a waist tuck?

A tummy tuck primarily addresses the abdomen. A waist tuck extends correction around the sides to address loose skin and excess tissue through the waist and hip area. Your primary concerns and previous surgery help determine the better option.

02What is recovery from a waist tuck like?

Discomfort may be similar to tummy tuck recovery, although side-to-side movement can feel more restricted because the incision is longer. Some patients return to work within seven to ten days, depending on their recovery and occupation.

03Who may be a candidate for a waist tuck?

The procedure may be considered by patients with loose skin or excess tissue around the waist and hips, including selected patients after a previous tummy tuck or substantial weight loss.
