The procedure, considered

A smoother abdominal contour, rebuilt from the foundation.

A tummy tuck removes excess lower-abdominal skin and fat while repairing stretched or separated abdominal muscles. It is designed for contour—not weight loss—and is most effective when a patient is healthy and near a stable goal weight.

Your consultation

Look beneath the surface.

Dr. Nakamura evaluates the skin, fat distribution, muscle wall, previous scars, health history, and goals. Together you review the surgical steps, expected outcome, alternatives, risks, recovery, and whether a full or more limited approach makes sense.

The procedure

Repair, remove, and redraw the waistline.

A low horizontal incision is typically placed from hipbone to hipbone. The abdominal muscles are repaired when needed, excess skin and fat are removed, and the remaining skin is redraped. A separate opening may be created to position the navel naturally.

  • General anesthesia
  • Usually two to four hours
  • Performed in the accredited surgery center

Recovery

Progress happens in considered stages.

A compression garment supports the abdomen while swelling subsides. Assistance with walking is often needed during the earliest days, though gentle movement begins promptly. Follow-up generally starts at about one week.

  • Some return to desk work near 10 days; others need longer
  • Strength and endurance often build over about six weeks
  • The contour continues refining for three to six months

Tummy Tuck FAQs

Questions worth
asking early.

General information to support a more informed consultation. Your recommendations and recovery guidance will always be personalized.

01Who may be a candidate for tummy tuck surgery?

A tummy tuck may be considered by patients with loose abdominal skin, localized excess tissue, or abdominal muscles weakened by pregnancy. It may also help selected patients after substantial weight loss once their weight is stable.

02Is a tummy tuck a substitute for weight loss?

No. The current practice guidance describes tummy tuck surgery as a contouring procedure, with the best outcomes generally associated with stable weight, good health, and non-smoking status.

03What is the general tummy tuck recovery timeline?

Recovery varies. Some patients return to work in about ten days while others need longer. Endurance and final contours develop gradually, with individualized guidance provided throughout postoperative visits.
